This book and DVD series are awesome. Ross must be a bit crazy in the way he works. This guy defines the concept of “work ethic” in this educational series.
Why is this important to me?
I always want to make sure that when I create a video, it’s worth it from your point of view. This program is vitally important if you want to step up your training game and get really fit. You can use some of these tools as a beginner, but you’ll find that Ross’ stuff escalates quickly.
Plus, if you want to maximize stamina and energy, this program is for you. Ross is an expert in combat sports training and understands what it takes to train effectively to win.
If you are a boxer, MMA fighter or wrestler, this program will help you develop your digestive system for peak performance. The well-conditioned athlete will outperform the most talented athlete in later rounds – EVERY TIME.
There’s a ton of great stuff in this show and I’m going to lay out some major highlights and show some clips of Ross himself doing stuff.
1.3 Energy Systems – Ross discusses ATP-PC, glycogen, and aerobic energy systems in detail. It uses research and details how these systems work. In a nutshell, you have three energy systems which consist of two anaerobes and one aerobic. The goal of this type of training is to increase net work output and maximize the three energy systems to achieve this. If you are a boxing or MMA fan, you may have noticed that at the start of fights combat athletes have more power in their punches than they have later in the fight. It has to do with the anaerobic system being torn down and losing energy. Ross shows you how you can increase anaerobic work capacity by using periods of aerobic rest to increase total work output. That’s great. Two of the best fighters – Manny Pacquiao and Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather have incredible stamina and energy and that’s why they have been champions for so long.
2. Interval Training – Interval training is the best way to improve aerobic and anaerobic energy systems. Research shows that intense, intermittent training offers the best of both worlds. Side note: If you want to lose weight or fat, this type of training will melt it away. Interval training allows you to burn calories all day. Research shows that sprint training, interval work and other forms of intensity help the body burn calories – ALL DAY. This secret is the key for you to melt the fat. You can run long distances and this workout will burn more calories DURING WORKOUT. It’s the rest of the day that matters if you want to burn calories and interval training is key.
3. Variety – The biological law of accommodation. This law states that the body’s response to a constant stimulus decreases over time. I didn’t know they had a technical name for boredom. If you’ve been exercising for a while, you’ve plateaued in your workout routines. The body and the mind are a magnificent combination and allow to adapt to the stimuli. Some training programs get around this problem by using muscle confusion. Basically, they vary the types of exercises you do. This law is relevant in every part of your life. If you haven’t had a New York Strip steak in ages and you love steak, then when you finally get one, it will taste great. If you have one every day for dinner this month, you’re bored and it’s not great anymore. The same goes for exercise routines.
Ross combines different exercises with full intensity and timed relaxation between sets. Remember that the goal of his training is to maximize work output in the shortest possible time.
Basically, it’s the holy grail of training because you can rack up your results in less time. If you’ve watched any of my summaries, you know I’m a big fan of compound effects and time preservation.
