Sony 40G PS3 – Playstation 3 Review

Before buying a 40G PS3, one thing you should know: if you play your old PS2 games, you may need to buy a 60G model PS3 or an 80G model PS3.

Don’t forget that this 40G PS3 has no backwards compatibility! You cannot play your PS2 games in this PS3 40G. (I didn’t do my homework before buying this 40G PS3, so my PS2 games are still in the dust now)

I bought this PS3 40G because I want to watch Blu-ray movies on my Sony 40 inch LCD HDTV (1080i). And I knew the PS3 had a built-in Blu-ray player (I believe a lot of people buy this PS3 because of the built-in Blu-ray player). One day when my brother told me he bought a Play Station 3 40G in Circuit City for $399 (it was on sale), and he told me how good his Play Station 3 was” cool”, then I just bought this 40G play station 3 (the package includes a ‘Spider-man 3’ Blu-ray disc).

This 40G Playstation 3 is HDMI compatible, which means I can use this 40G Playstation 3 to watch all high definition movies on my Sony 40 inch LCD HDTV (1080i) and my new Gateway 24 inch LCD HD monitor . (Another famous two game system, Wii doesn’t have high definition player, and xbox360 need to pay extra $170 to get HD-DVD player). However, this 40G PS3 model didn’t include HDMI, so I had to spend $6 to buy an HDMI cable from amazon.com.

This 40G PS3 has built-in wireless capability to connect to the internet and access is free. I can use Windows Media as a media server to share files via wireless from my PC to this 40G PS3 (there are a lot of movies on YouTube to show you how to share your PC files to your PS3).

This 40G PS3 includes a wireless controller (it’s very nice; personally, I really hate having a lot of wires everywhere). If you want to play 2 player game with your friend at the same time, you need to buy another wireless controller (about $49 in Circuit city).

This 40G PS3 doesn’t include a remote (just like a TV remote, see picture above), so I had to buy a $28 remote from amazon.com. I used this 40G PS3 to watch Blu-ray movies and my baby’s photos through my 40 inch Sony LCD HDTV. High definition makes the graphics truly amazing!!! I strongly recommend people to buy an HDMI cable for your PS3. Using the HDMI cable can really tell you the difference between normal quality and high definition quality. When I play the PS3 game Motor Storm (I bought a used one for $25 from amazon.com). It’s so cool, the game looks so real.

One issue you may need to be concerned about, this 40G 3 gaming station gets a bit hot after 40 minutes and a bit slow to load the game (beyond my initial expectations).

Overall, this 40G PS3 is fantastic, and I’m really enjoying this 40G PS3. It’s worth every penny!

This 40G PS3 gets hot (no other issues yet) after 30 minutes, I think I need to buy a cooler for this baby.
