I Am Mad About Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland

The eccentric, Tim Burton, once again teams up with the eclectic, Johnny Depp, delivering a sequel to the Disney original, Alice in Wonderland it is amazing and one of a kind. I’m extremely crazy about Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland 3D (PG rated). Not mad with anger but mad with madness about it.

In my opinion, this movie was well worth the $27 it cost my two kids and me to see it on the big 3D screen. It hit theaters on that very important date, March 5, 2010. Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is a visually stunning 3D fantasy masterpiece that is already a massive box office hit.

Burton managed to make a unique and hugely entertaining movie that won’t disappoint fans. The theater was packed and we sat in the front. I was amazed at the reality that 3D brings to the screen. It felt like I was inside Wonderland aka Underland and I jumped around several times when it appeared that an object was going to hit me in the face. There were fun parts. I appreciate the madness and love that Alice’s father encouraged the imagination.

It’s not so much the script that’s so captivating as the curious characters in Alice in Wonderland. From the dressed up White Rabbit to the Tweedles, Burton’s character portrayals are gorgeous. The Red Queen of Hearts (Helena Bonham Carter) has a very disproportionate head and has no problem screaming “cut off your head”. The Mad Hatter (Depp) has very funky colored eyes, makeup and costume. I was disappointed that there was no ‘non-anniversary’ celebration. The hookah-smoking Blue Caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat were two of my favorite characters.

It was my first time watching a 3D movie on the big screen. We arrived early as I wasn’t sure how big the turnout would be. It wasn’t out of print but I read some more Alice in Wonderland critics who said the film was out of print. All work and no play is often the way I have to roll. It was good to have this fantastic movie to look forward to and it was better than I imagined.

My daughter said her least favorite part of Burton Alice in Wonderland was the beginning, before Alice fell down the rabbit hole, on the sweltering engagement party. Neither my son nor daughter (ages 7 and 9) could choose a favorite part, they “enjoyed the movie a lot”. The March Hare, Alice and the White Queen (Anne Hathaway) were my daughter’s favorite characters.

The only qualm I had seeing Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland in theaters, it was the parent who decided to bring their crying baby and the person behind me who kept stomping on the back of my seat. Sorry, I don’t think it’s considerate to bring babies unless you’re sure they’ll be quiet and if you can’t comfort them you should go outside. Customers should respect those seated around them.

I give Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland 3D 10 stars and recommend it to everyone. 3D in cinemas is an incredibly realistic movie viewing experience. A wonderful escape for those of us who are crazy and as Alice likes to say, “all the best people are”.
