The Self Defense Company Review

Damian Ross of The Self Defense Company says his system is “the deadliest martial arts/self-defense program in the world”. I have been using the program for over a year now and I believe without a doubt that so far this statement is unequivocally true. I’ve been in the martial arts thing for about 20 years and always looked for things that I thought were the real thing (working in real life). When I started looking for fighting “styles” that would work in a street fight, I came across “Jeet Kune Do” from there. Over a year ago when I first noticed the Self Defense Company, like everyone else, I had no idea what to expect. I spent about a month or two looking at reviews and googling “The Self Defense Company Scams” and reading all the customer complaints and watching people say them badly in the forums before buying the product . I couldn’t find any clever arguments or anything that convinced me not to give them a chance. So I ended up buying everything all at once. I was pretty excited when I finally got it in the mail. I’m the type of person who gets really excited when I get something new but after about a week or two if anything I feel like a complete jerk and I’m extremely ticked off and call and ask for my money. “No one has one by me!” Yeah, well that’s what I tell myself so I feel better. But let me tell you, after over a year of using the system, I really think it’s great.

If you’ve ever seen Penn and Teller’s BullSh#$, you know how ruthless they can be. Well, they ended up doing a show about different kinds of martial arts and karate. They visited various dojos to see how inefficient they really were. When the shows ended, they ripped every fighting style apart from Damian Ross’ training system. So where are Penn and Teller big Self Defense Company fans? Absolutely not! In fact, they said that Mr. Ross should not teach this program to ordinary citizens – only to the Army Special Forces and police officers who attend his class!

So how does the program work? The Self-Defense Training System (SDTS) is made up of twelve different modules. Each module is accompanied by a training manual and two DVDs. A DVD is a demonstration DVD in which an opponent attacks the instructor who performs the various moves on that opponent. The first DVD of each module basically gives you the scenarios in which you would use the different moves. The second DVD in each module is a workout DVD that shows you how to practice the moves yourself. Each workout manual tells you what moves to practice and how to perform each move.

What are my favorite modules. I know this sounds really corny, but please bear with me. I give here my real opinion. They are all awesome. You are probably thinking to yourself. “Well, that wasn’t a very critical review at all.” But I feel that because it’s actually a system and you have to work and move up the proverbial ladder proper. You start with the basics, but as you progress to cool stuff like weapons and throws, it starts to come naturally. It actually builds on your bare hands training that you start with at the beginning of the workout. They say in the DVDs that the samurai trained that way.

How is this program different from others?Well, first of all, Penn and Teller on their show think that civilians shouldn’t be able to take this course and only elite special forces, army soldiers, or police should be able to. This is actually a huge selling point for me. I mean Penn and Teller are famous for loving trying to make people look retarded, but they’ll never do it at the expense of making themselves look like jerks. By that I mean they weren’t about to call the bullshit STDS %$ because if they did, they would have made themselves look like idiots doing it. In fact, they had no problem making fun of all the other martial arts. And you could tell they really enjoyed doing it too. But honestly, I believe that STDS is the best self-defense system, and so are they, so far.
